INFO
In search of his inner truth yet electrifying. Focused yet undergoing constant change. Deeply concentrated yet improvisational as a player. Marcel Ziul experienced a great deal from a very young age, and his personality is defined by that, as well as by the inability to do anything but tell the truth while holding a guitar.
Ziul began playing the guitar in the early 1990’s, after several years of formally studying violin. Having been raised ‘on the move’, (his family had already moved fifteen times before he was 18), it did not take Ziul long to realize that his calling to become an artist was a blessing which aided in balancing out the frustration that came out of having been in situations where he did not understand and was not understood. Life had given him no choice but to follow it.
It was in Brazil, to where Ziul moved in 1997, that he met friends who shared his love for music. He joined several bands and currently focuses most of his energy into the MZTRIO, formed in 2008, which has toured tirelessly throughout Brazil.
After having written hundreds of songs and taking part in countless recording sessions alongside several other artists, Ziul’s plans include an international tour so that his music may be heard by all those who support his art.
Unique, raw and true; these are just some of the attributes that make Marcel one of the greatest musicians in Brazil, admired by fellow musicians and by numerous fans across the country and around the world.
THE MZTRIO
Psychedelic Roots
Bearing a significant blues, soul and rock influence, the MZTRIO’s mission is to rescue those they get the chance to play for back to when it took soul to perform. These three musicians believe playing until you bleed is actually a good thing. It is, at the very least, convincing.
Inspired by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Muddy Waters and any music they come across that can’t be done without real feeling, the band incorporates different genres into its own sound, doing away with pre-established categories for both what they play and who they play it too.
The band’s leader, Marcel Ziul, began playing the guitar in the early 1990′s, after several years of formally studying violin. Having been raised ‘on the move’, (his family had already moved fifteen times before he was 18), it did not take Ziul long to realize that his calling to become an artist was a blessing which aided in balancing out the frustration that came out of having been in stuations where he did not understand and was not understood. Life had given him no choice but to follow it.
It was in Brazil, to where Ziul moved in the late 1990′s, that Ziul met with musicians who shared his love for the blues and musical views. Several bands were formed before the MZTRIO was born in 2008. The ingredients were now in place.
On Stage
The MZTRIO’s intense energy on stage brings life to even the softest of chords. The band flows between heavy and mellow atmospheres seamlessly, and seem not to tire, despite always giving their audience everything they’ve got.
Besides performing their own material, which Ziul often describes as “mere pretexts for playing music”, the group also pays tribute to those who influenced them, often producing exciting combinations by citing passages from other artists in their own songs or flowing between different pieces of music unexpectedly and without pause.
The Band
The MZTRIO is Marcel Ziul’s main project and features Eder Dias on bass and Luis Capano on drums. Formed in 2008, the band recorded Ziul’s debut album, ‘The MZTRIO Live Studio Sessions’ the following year. The record is styled after the trio’s soul, funk and rock influences, and the band band brings Ziul’s compositions to life with power and energy.
